Both the middle and the high school were named John Irwin Schools of Excellence again in 2007-2008 based on their "excellent" Student Accountability Report (SAR) ratings, determined from scores in the yearly Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) testing. (more)

The school district maintained its accredited status in the annual accreditation review with the Colorado Department of Education and achieved Adequate Yearly Progress under federal No Child Left Behind regulations.

Goals For Continued Achievement:

#1 Improve Student Achievement

Improve student achievement as measured by CSAP as reflected by the Weighted Index Score.  Increase the number of students scoring "advanced" in reading, writing, math and science CSAP.  Increase 2009 district median growth percentile in reading, writing and math which remaining a high growth, high achievement district.

Goals for 2008-2009 remain a focus on writing at every grade level and content area and continuing achievement in math to increase the WiS and number of "advanced" scores at every level and every content area and median growth percentiles in each content area.

#2 Maximize graduation rates

Maintain graduation rate of 100% - Continue Academic mentoring in conjunction with ACT prep in Grades 11-12, PLAN in grade 10, EXPLORE in grades 8-9, PSAT in grade 11 and the use of www.CollegeinColorado.org.

#3 Maintain district's ACT average above the state's average

Continue Academic mentoring in conjunction with ACT prep in Grades 11-12, PLAN in grade 10 and EXPLORE in grades 8-9.

School Programs for Enhanced Academic Achievement:

Individual academic planning with teacher/parents/student conferences in September to set annual yearly goals and at mid-term to review growth and progress.

AP American Government (2006-7) and AP Biology (2007-8), distance learning AP classes available.

Maintain all district teachers as "highly qualified" in core-academic subjects.

Math Trailblazers program at the elementary level.

All grade 8 students enrolled in Algebra I.

Hinsdale County School District RE-1 is fully accredited as a single pre-K through 12th grade school, the Lake City Community School.
