Lake
City Community School serves approximately 100 students living
in the Lake City area in pre-school
through 12th grade classes. The school calendar is based on a 4-day
school week with classes meeting Tuesday through Friday. Class
sizes are small and frequently multi-level.
In the
elementary school four teachers (preschool, K-1, 2-3 and 4-5) staff
the four elementary classrooms. Secondary school students are
taught by four teachers (language arts, math, science and social
studies) in subject dedicated classrooms.
Secondary teachers also conduct
elective classes including drama, health, journalism and life
skills. Special education
staff work with all grades.
Additional part-time staff members teach art, music,
Spanish, technology, health/physical education and work as
instructional assistants. The school
coordinates services with the Lake City Library through a librarian
who works at both libraries.
The instructional staff is
experienced and dynamic, focusing on the whole child through hands
on, experiential education. An individualized educational
process brings together teachers, parents and students in bi-annual
conferences to set goals and assess growth with acceleration and
pacing to meet individual needs.
The school, fully accredited by
the State of Colorado, benefits from great parental and community
support and involvement.
